Observations, Travel

The general views and opinions we have when it comes to the United States, for the largest part, are fed by news, movies and TV series. You can’t really blame foreigners, for the one-dimensional compilations since the world is flooded with American media output. We sometimes need to remind ourselves that it’s a stage set and dramatized by news casters, actors and media hungry celebs which owe their existence to audiences and need to keep us ‘locked in’. On another note, sometimes I feel like I’m living in a sit-com. This is stronger in LA than in any other place – I hope to find out why that is over the next years.

The impact of Twin Peaks on our initial perception of the areas around Seattle was a good example for a pre-conceived view. The series was filmed just South-East of Seattle. Our first tour around this area was clearly ‘colored’ by the series. We could not help but get in a gloomy ‘David Lynch’ mood, looking around the mountains, woods, rivers and mist.
